Default Nolani Reform...

Hi, I am your new Nolani Academy of Arts Moderator.

This area has evolved a good amount in the past few months and as such the forum is evolving with it.

As you can see there is a new sub forum here. This sub forum will be used for people that want to sell their art only.

A converted Rules page will be posted shortly.

I would like to thank you all for your interest in this area as we help each other to make it the best we can. I also hope that once the rules are set for the commissions sub forum, everyone can transfer their commission threads to that area.

With that move, it should keep everything running smoothly and organized.

Stay tuned.

Cool idea.

I think I posted my thoughts on the rules thread in the wrong thread

Nice changes. I think it's a cool idea so now we can have a proper art section and all the commission rumba can be done on the other forum without disturbing the flow of the art forum. GG Slayer.

I have just one issue with this. The bump rule. I don't personally see it really fits an "art forum" where ideas and inspiration are supposed to be flowing freely and discussion is a good way to go about this. Now it seems very strict. I doubt there will be THAT many commission threads anyway because art IMHO requires a lot more motivation, work and inspiration than just farming for greens and golds for example. It's true people are "selling" artworks but only a select few here are actually quick about it and most take a few days or weeks to complete works. Also most people just quit after a few succesful runs. I agree that flagging really shouldn't be allowed and artists should only take so many commissions at a time and when they have cleared those should they start accepting new ones.

Anyway what I'm trying to say is that art isn't as mechanical and easy as just selling ingame items and shouldn't be treated as such. Hence the bump rule seems very unnessecarily strict to me and should only be enforced after seen truly nessecary. There are people who would like to further discuss their commissions with their commissioner and maybe ask them questions or opinions in threads. The way I see it PM boxes are a really bad way to go about this. At least my PM box is constantly getting full when going into lenghty discussions with people(about art!) and would propably complitelly explode if I had to work ALL my transactions trough PM's. So there. This is just my opinion and I could be complitelly wrong but I do think the rules from the selling forums do not quite fit here the way they are and should be a lot looser before we can actually see what kind of rules are really needed. I think a better idea would be to just not allow clear "bump" posts at all. I have not seen it being used in the past anyway. It seems kind of silly here. We are not Gaia afterall...

That's my 2cents. I will ofcourse follow the moderators rules but those are my wishes and suggestions and I do appreciate a good set of rules but from my point of view right now they are maybe a bit unfit for this type of forum.

If that's the case, someone should look into this matter again: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10165440 (banned for bumping a thread on this forum one day ago)

That person was the same person in both posts. There were other factors to that banning. =P

But isn't that still considered bumping, as it's the same person? Just on two different accounts...

Or did you ban for using two accounts?

Alt accounts are discouraged but not a violation of forum guidelines unless used for shill bidding or another malicious purpose on the forums. I'll be happy to review though and look to see the reason for the ban for the users if they are interested and contact me.

Hi there,

Now on to the Nolani reform.......

1- I think it's a good idea to have a new section for artists doing commissions. It makes it a lot easier to navigate.

2- I find the description of the sub-forum just a tid bit threatening...

>>Beware the wrath of the Ventari rules.<<

We all know that Ventari is a section where you will get banned if you bump your own post in less than 24 hrs. For one, people are selling things in Ventari. I realize a commission is a service, but rarely it's an auction. If an artist at some point wants to do an auction, then perhaps that particular thread can have different rules.

3- I think Ventari's rules are based on the fact that there are several dozens of autions/sales posted in as little as one hour, and if a seller bumps his thread to be on page one it pushes the other's further down. The big difference is the Sales section of Ventari has 126 pages, and the entire Nolani section has 5 pages, with the last 2 pages not being updated for over a month. The subforum Commission Central, where the rules say you need to wait 24 hrs to reply, has 1 page. If somebody replies it will be bumped to the top in the same page.

Now to Commission Central Guidelines :

4- >> Advices/Questions/Comments should be done via PM, ingame whispers, email, or in the artist's Show Thread. Examples of posts we do not want to see:
- "Free bump."
- "Nice art!"
- "These pictures suck."
- "Your price(s) are too high/low." <<

Part of what was great in Nolani was the back and forth between artists and others. The comments, suggestions, ideas, jokes... Again, on an active thread, it just bumped it within the first 2 pages. Having to communicate a compliment, an idea, a thought via PM, whispers.. can become very overwhelming and fill up their mailboxes very quickly, and everybody else will miss out on the exchange, the very purpose of a thread.

It also says the artist's show thread... but I thought they were asked to move their threads to the new section? Or is it artists are now being required to handle 2 threads? One for commisions and one for commenting on either commissions or drawings artists share?

5- >>Service Threads - Additional Guidelines

• Do not discuss posted service offers.
• You may only post service feedback in a thread after you obtained the service.<<

I think this applies to 99.9% of the commission threads no? I mean since they are a service?
I'm just not understanding what is it you want us to do...

Do not discuss service offers means what? could you please give me an example?

And as per feedback, do you mean if an artist posts somebody else's commission I can not say anything until my commision is done and the service is rendered?

Honestly, none of this makes any sense to me.

The rest of the rules you posted are general Guru rules: recruiting, links...

I think having a new section where artists that are doing commissions post is a great idea. Limiting the exchange on these threads with the threat of banishment isn't. You are telling artists that they need to wait 24 hrs. The 24 hr wait or ban rule applies to the OP not to the users that reply. Why would you want to limit an artist to speak and make them wait 24 hrs?

All these rules are not going to hurt that people that want to request commissions like me, they are going to hurt and turn off the artists that post the original threads and are reminded to fear the wrath of ventari.

The bump rule was removed yesterday... That takes care of pretty much every consern you have...

As for the two threads... It may be a little extra work, but its entirely worth it if the artists and the buyers want to get to the pictures without having to wade through pages worth of comments.

The artists have their own threads in the main area for showing off the pictures to get comments and suggestions and all that. (As everyone has still been doing since the new stuff was put in.) And then theres the business end where they have a seperate thread where people can actually make the commission request. Therefore making it easier for both parties to sort between the business and the fun. I asked the artists that if they wished to do commissions still to create their thread in the commissions area... The early signs of this came even before the sub forum was made when grey fox had two threads in the main area... One to show his art and then the second for the commission request thread... That system takes the best of what this new system is going to do.

About the description of the Commissions area... That was Dral being silly. That text can be changed.

I like the reform it was a little chaotic at first but now it seems to be getting organized.

Makes getting commissions a little easier which is nice.

Ok cool, woot. Honestly I think having a new section is an excellent idea, it does make much easier to navigate.

Now, your reply took care of the 24 hr bump, but I'm still a bit confused about what we can and can't do...

1- am I not allowed to make any comments on the commission thread? or I can just comment after I get a commission? or both?
What I'm understanding now is... I look in commision central, I see a piece of art, I go down to Nolani, look for that artists show thread, I comment there.
is that it?

About the Commission Central description, and Ventari's Wrath... I'm not quite sure new artists would feel very welcome entering that area. It just makes it sound all like Enter-At-Your-Own-Risk. Maybe you guys can come up with a silly-funny and not a silly-scary description.

You can reply on the commission thread by either requesting a commission or editing your request I recon.

And give oohh and ahhs and constructed criticism etc. in the artists art thread. (We love comments, really, a lot ^^)
